Biography

Kristin O'Meara Hillman

If you're here, it's probably because you have a story to tell. You need someone else to help you do that, and to reach the right audience in just the right way, with the most impact. That's what I do best.

I'm Kristin O'Meara Hillmann, Story Teller #1 at KOMink Creative. I've been writing my whole life - a life that's taken me from covering everything from destinations around the world to board rooms, protests and meetings, reporting on news of the travel industry. I've been fortunate to have the experience of leading teams of reporters and editors, as well as being the Woman Behind the Curtain at two web sites. I'm passionate about a few things - people, writing, travel, islands, environment, food, wine, and hitting the nail on the head. I've been struck over and over as I've traveled the U.S., the Caribbean and in Europe, how so many businesses, hotels, resorts and destinations have great stories that are waiting to be told, and all the intereseting little details that often get missed when you're only looking at a place or a company from the outside. They may not be on the map, but it's my job to find them.

Travel Writing

In life as in work, it's not about the destination so much as the journey, and every place I visit also has a journey in progress - its history, the present, and the place where it's headed next. My job is to tell that story, to reflect back what I see from a traveler's perspective. I've done that - with a great deal of personal satisfaction - in the travel stories that I've been writing now for almost 20 years, focusing on the Caribbean, and now on U.S. destinations.

After reading a new travelogue of mine, one seasoned travel editor exclaimed, "Holy @#@#! I love the way you write! I was right there with you…." To me, that's the highest compliment I can ever be paid. This is a job that never gets old, and I still think I have one of the best in the world, because the world is an amazing classroom, one full of people, cities, oceans, gardens, museums, even swim-up bars.

Web Content

Have you ever noticed that it's a rare website that has its own sound, its own voice, and really creates a sense of place or personality? Every company has its own voice, and so does every destination, resort and hotel . As a writer and reporter, I've had to wade through endless layers of blahblahblah on the Web. There's no personality, no individuality, and no reason for anyone to stay and read if they absolutely, positively didn't have to.

If your website hasn't yet found its voice, or its voice is putting people to sleep, my firm can help you do that, using a reporter's ear and eye for detail to truly define your unique selling proposition. With the help of my very short list of travel and business editors, we will get to know your company the old-fashioned way - by spending time with you. We'll help you refine your message specifically for the Web. We'll work hand-in-hand with your web developers to develop keywording and search engine optimization that make you stand out from the crowd. Click in and take a look at a few of the web sites we've done.
